When Link was 4, his father passed away from a heart attack. Since then, Link longed for a male mentor to look up to and to do activities with. Link’s mother was going through challenges of her own so his grandma adopted him. Link's grandmother enrolled him in the Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawai‘i program when he was 11 years old.

In November of 2012, the agency matched Link with Big Brother Warren Leung. Grandma Wilma said that "Being matched with Big Brother Warren and the guidance and compassion that he instilled in Lincoln has inspired him to become a good, respectful, and caring young man by uplifting him and instilling in him that life is what you make of it and always be respectful, honest and caring to yourself, your family, your friends, and community".
